Merlini is a former professional DotA Allstars player. He is currently a caster, streamer and commentator for Beyond the Summit.
He started playing DotA in 2006. He gained recognition in 2008 regularly attending MYM Prime Defending, one of the most prestigious online tournaments of the day. Playing for Meet Your Makers, he won an event once and placed second multiple times. Merlini used to play for EG, OK.Nirvana.int and SK.Gaming. However, in 2012 he finally ended his gaming career and drew his attention to commenting and streaming.
At the end of 2014 Merlini returned to the professional scene for a while, helping Team Zephyr in Korean Dota 2 League Season 3, but his comeback did not lead to anything: the team showed poor performance, losing almost every single match. At the beginning of 2015 Ben tried himself, playing for the American stack Monib Baray in the qualifiers for The Summit 3, but the team was immediately knocked out of the tournament.
Since then Merlini would often participate in various qualifiers with the stack Vegetables Esports Club, which consists of either media figures like Merlini himself (Purge, Maelk) or professional players who cannot play for a serious team for some reason.
As a DotA Allstar player he was famous for his Zeus play.
He is also known for the "1-800 Call Merlini" meme. On the 1st of February 2013 there was a match between Natus Vincere and Re-defining (ex-mTw) during RaidCall Dota2 League Season 2. Na'Vi's captain, Puppey, made a pause in game right at the decisive moment of a team fight. There were rumours that the pause was tactical (considering the fact that the fight and the game were won by Na'Vi), and Merlini analysed the moment in detail on his stream. Since then, when such situations occur, everyone forces the "1-800 Call Merlini" meme so that Ben re-establishes justice.
