Raphael "cogu" Camargo of Gorilla Core will stand in for Immortals for the ELEAGUE Premier group stage, according to the team's official Twitter account. Both star player Vito "kNg" Giuseppe and sixth man João "horvy" Horvath are in Brazil resolving P1 visa issues.
Immortals will take on mousesports in the first round of ELEAGUE Premier group stage this Friday.
At age 32, cogu is a veteran of Brazilian CS. He played professional 1.6 for nearly a decade, Source for the two years it was relevant, and has now been on the CSGO pro scene for five years. Cogu has played for mid-size esports organizations like paiN Gaming, who also has had a prominent LoL team in the past, and INTZ eSports. He has been a part of his most recent team Gorilla Core since February of this year.
It looks like Immortals didn't want to have head coach Rafael "zakk" Fernandes fill in again, like he did at DreamHack Montreal for a few days. That comes as a bit of a surprise, since zakk didn't look overwhelmed by the talent level in any way, but did uncomfortable with the speed of the game. The general consensus was that if zakk was given more time, he would be a decent plug-and-play option, despite middling results in Montreal.
IMT will need cogu to use his veteran experience to do just that: plug into this team and get them to the next round of ELEAGUE Premier. Cogu is no star by any stretch, and the team will no doubt miss kNg's explosive playmaking. But they need cogu to be anything but a liability. Any good performances would just be icing on the cake.
Cogu and IMT captain Lucas "Steel" Lopes previously played together on ProGaming.TD, the first Brazilian CSGO team to compete internationally,
This will perhaps give kNg a chance to reset after a catastrophic week in Montreal. Things were already bad when he, Henrique "HEN1" Teles, and Lucas "LUCAS1" Teles showed up late to their DH Montreal grand final match against North, and were forced to forfeit the first map. Things went from bad to worse when rumors that the trio missed their start time due to recovering from a late night of partying caught like wildfire. Things went from worse to F.U.B.A.R. when, after CLG captain Pujan "FNS" Mehta poked fun at Immortals' situation, kNg issued a death threat to FNS on Twitter.
KNg and Immortals are on thin ice right now. Hopefully, he finds a bit of reprieve back home before jumping back into the fire.
